Pelvic Pain
Understanding pelvic pain — its causes, how it is evaluated, and the treatment options available.
Pelvic pain is one of the most common complaints in gynaecological practice. It can be acute (sudden and severe) or chronic (lasting more than 3–6 months), with causes ranging from straightforward to complex.
Types of Pelvic Pain
Acute pelvic pain may indicate an ectopic pregnancy, ovarian cyst rupture, or pelvic infection. Chronic pelvic pain is more often associated with endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids, or irritable bowel syndrome.
Thorough Evaluation
Dr. Saba Mehmood takes a detailed history, performs a pelvic examination, and arranges appropriate investigations including ultrasound and blood tests to identify the source of pain accurately.
Treatment Options
Treatment depends on the underlying cause. Options include medical management (hormonal therapies, pain relief), physical therapy, and surgical intervention where necessary.
You Do Not Have to Accept Pain
Many women live with pelvic pain for years, assuming it is normal. It is not. With the right specialist assessment and treatment, significant improvement in quality of life is achievable.
