Cervical Health
Understanding cervical screening, HPV, and how to protect your cervical health.
Cervical health is a vital part of every woman’s preventive healthcare. Regular screening and awareness of symptoms can detect pre-cancerous changes early, at a stage when they are fully treatable.
Cervical Screening
Cervical screening (smear test) checks for abnormal cells on the cervix. It is recommended for all women from the age of 21, or earlier if sexually active. Results range from normal to various grades of abnormality.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection and the primary cause of cervical cancer. Most HPV infections clear on their own, but certain high-risk strains can cause cervical cell changes if persistent.
Abnormal Screening Results
If your smear result is abnormal, Dr. Saba Mehmood will explain what this means and what happens next. Colposcopy may be recommended to examine the cervix more closely. Most abnormalities are pre-cancerous and highly treatable.
Prevention
HPV vaccination, regular screening, and awareness of symptoms such as unusual bleeding or discharge are the most effective tools for protecting your cervical health.
